Last week, I posted about the worst movie ever, Electroma. It just made me so angry, so i decided that I needed to watch a good movie this weekend. Hot Fuzz, is one of the best comedies I have seen in a long time, the writing is good, if a bit predictable. It was simply just great. It has action, comedy, and drama and keep’s your attention all the time. Since Shaun of the Dead, I have wanted them to make another movie and this did it. It starts with Simon Pegg’s character in london and he is forced to move to this small rural city. The police force there is very stupid and never has to deal with anything. And then people start dying. from there on it’s kinda the whole movie and it’s hard to say stuff without giving anything away. In conclusion, this is a movie that mostly everyone should see, I say that because it has quite a bit of swearing. Have a good weekend, while I try to download grindhouse. I’ll put up a review soon.

So if you don’t know, Daft Punk has a new movie called Electroma. In short it was one of the worst movies I have ever seen. It really just had no point, really. All that happened was they walked it was really boring, there is no dialogue, it is about 1 hour and 10 minutes and there is only music for about 30 minutes total. There are a total of three good scenes, th rest of the time all they do is walk, drive a car, or star at each other or themselves in mirrors. Save yourself and don’t even bother getting this, it really is an hour of your life you will never get back. the only good thing about is that it was shot well and looks pretty, for the first 10 minutes you watch them walking. It just got old and really disappointed me. I expected a lot more from them after Interstella 5555 and all there music videos. Wha happen? I don’t know what made them make this and who ever wrote it must have been on a lot of stuff (”hey, let’s make them walk for half the movie without music, people like that right?”). So in short, do something better with your time like…watching paint with some music on. It’s about the same. If you disagree leave a comment and tell me why. Thanks for your time.

King of Kong is a wonderful documentary about the journey of one man to break the world record score in Donkey Kong. As first sight that may seem like a very boring movie, but this movie has two very different characters. Steve Wiebe is the challenger. A father of two from Redmond, Washington who recently got laid off. The record holder is a wealthy business man from Florida. His name is Billy Mitchell. Through out the movie the viewer grows a strong attachment to Steve and a deep resentment for Billy. Steve is shown breaking records all over the place in tape and live in front of a lot of people. Being a gamer myself I can understand the pressure that he was put under, but yet he proved himself to be an excellent player. Meanwhile, Billy is shown selling his hot sauce and restocking shelves. Never is he shown playing a game, any game.
The way that the movie is directed makes you feel like you were with him through it all. I wanted him to beat a record so badly it was sad. I won’t say if he beat a record or not, you’ll have to see what happens for yourself. Steve is the type of person that is very easy to like. He is nice to everyone, he never gloats, and he realizes that this is a hobby. Billy, on the other hand, makes himself look like a jerk. He only sends in tapes, yet is shown driving around, eating in his restaurant and relaxing. Obviously he can’t take the challenge and I think he should probably give up the title if you can’t accept you’re not the best anymore. The worst part is that he sends out other people to watch Steve for him. I mean, honestly…?
This is a documentary that plays out like a classic good vs. evil tale. It has moment of happiness, sadness, hope, depression. To make it short it’s got it all. As far as documentaries are concerned it is one that will hold your interest the whole way through and make you want the good guys to win. Go see it, tell me what you think. Did I get anything wrong?

While this review may be a bit late, I’m very glad that I made time to watch it. As you may have heard this film is a biopic about Bob Dylan and he is played by six very different actors. I’m not a big Dylan fan so I can really only grade this movie from what it is since I have no preconceived notions about how it should portray his life. That being said it was a wonderful movie and if it really shows what his life was like, then his life was made to be turned into a movie. The acting by everyone is superb and it is hard to call out one person and say that they did a better job. The director obviously wanted people to look at this movie without making them analyze it. He just wanted to show what one man’s life was like.

Being that I have a background with photography and movie making, I look at every movie thinking about how I could have done it better. This is one movie where I think I could not, and would not, change anything. Some of the editing in this movie is fantastic and makes you think, crap, I wish I had done that. One problem that I have with many movies is that they light there whole movie either very bright or very dark and the lighting will almost never pertain to the emotion of the scene. But not in this one, When something bad happens it’s dark, happy =light. It makes me happy that there are still good filmmakers alive. Now if only we can get some original stories…

Something I feel is necessary to talk about is the music. It’s all Dylan’s work, except for one by The Monkees, but not always performed by him. All types of people did covers throughout this movies, men, women,bands, well known and indie. This is not a music review so I will save my comments on the individual songs for later. It is a very good movie with some brilliant actors and good music. This is one you should at least try to see in theaters soon. If your too busy at least rent it, you know what, as long as you see, I’m good. Have a good weekend
