Day 4
I’m a bad boyfriend
9/8
After yesterday at the Louvre, I thought it couldn’t get any better. It turns out that when you are in Paris every day can be better than the last. It started at one of the most French restaurants ever. You guessed it…Starbucks, en francais. It was different and they don’t really get the idea of a mocha, it just becomes a cafe au lait avec chocolat, which isn’t bad, but it’s not what I ordered. Oh well, you expect these things when you go to an American place in France, at least it wasn’t a McDonald’s. We’re better than that. Next we went to a metro station and stopped at the train station again. This time to rent a car, We’re picking it up as far away from Paris as possible, I hate to give away spoilers, but gramps and I are going to Normandy on Monday and Tuesday. From there we had to find a bank office, where he could hit up an ATM. We found a quite, small city that was very nice, but the office was nowhere to be seen. We left and found the way to get to le Mussee d’Orsey. The work of the impressionists is there.
When we got to the city, I got us there, but in the most convoluted, long way possible. Suffice it to say, grandpa was tired, and I have to admit that I was a bit fatigued as well. Now that I have all my fancy vocabulary out of the way, We can get back to the story. We had a small brunch like thing, and the first soup of the trip. It was very good, and I don’t know what it was. So we got to the paintings and right off the bat it starts with a whole collection of Renoir’s, I want to say that the Louvre was a highlight, and it was, but as far as art goes, I’d say that d’Orsay is the best. Cezanne, Picasso, Renoir, Mattise, Van Gogh, Monet and Manet, and so many others. It was a veritable pantheon of artistic genius. There was also a huge section with old furniture, It was nice, but old very fast since I couldn’t have any of it.
I can easily say that there was not one painting I didn’t like, not even the random close up of lady bits . It was kinda just there, It didn’t go with anything else, there were no nudes, or random body parts around it. I won’t go into how detailed it was. It was very awkward, Moving on, Van Gogh, and Monet became some of my favorite artists again. And there was only one painting of Jesus this time. I could also stand right next to every picture, I could have touched Monet’s signature, but bad things would have happened. I would have taken lots of pictures, but I left my memory card in my puter. I took pictures of some famous stuff though and some arty pictures since it is in an old train station. About halfway through, the g-man’s hips were hurting and he decided to go back to the hotel, so he stopped at a bar, nursed a beer and then went back. The ones still at the mussee, continued to walk through and went through the Picasso and Cezanne Exhibition. It was all very beautiful and I wish I could have taken pictures. we saw lots of famous Van Goghs, mostly “Starry Night” and his self portraits. There were Picasso’s from all of his periods and you could see his style change in each painting. After meandering through that section, we had seen everything, except for some statues, which get kind of boring.
So we sortie’d exited,I just realized that I don’t translate the French I randomly use, I’ll do that from now on and managed to find our way back to hotel. We were all kind of hungry since we only had donuts, soups, croissants, and coffee the whole day. So Granny and I went to the store and fought through the mass of bodies that stands outside of the huge department stores, I’m starting to hate these places. I like Portland busy, not Paris, oh, no where’s my wallet and wait, am I missing a kidney?, busy. So we got bread, cheese, saucisson sausage, wine and beer. It was a French brand this time and a dark ale. It was kind of like some of the Northwest micro brews, hoppy with kind of a sweet aftertaste, and very strong. It was good overall. We watched the US/Brit rugby game and the U.S lost, who would have guessed? Oh, that’s right…everyone. We had no chance in Hell Jr. (it’s hell for people that can’t go to real Hell because it’s too tough). After a while, I left to use the Internet downstairs, little did I know that they had a Euro keyboard, which I had never used before. This was quite possibly the most challenging technology I have ever come up against. Pressing buttons has never been so difficult. I’m lucky that I have my computer otherwise this would take hours upon hours to write. It made me so angry, I tried to do as little typing as possible. So we left after the game to get a nice dinner at Haussmann Palace, I had the duck leg with potato chips, they are more like fries in the shape of a chip. We ended the night with a cafe and called it quits for the day. Try ending your day with a cold beer and writing about your day to some music. Oh and you need to be in Paris. There are only a few better ways to end your day.
