Day 7
Another Day of Driving
9/11
Today was mostly driving. We continued our trip from the truck stop like hotel and headed south toward Blain. That was the place that grandpa’s unit was headquartered. He was able to find the castle that they made a head quarters, and some of the smaller places that were turned into communications centers and other ones that were switchboards. It was nice for him, but it didn’t really mean that much to me. Actually it did, I love seeing places and hearing my grandfather’s stories It was still some beautiful countryside that probably isn’t seen enough by tourists. Then we went to the city of Bouvron, it’s another place that they stayed at after the war and a major surrender happened near the center of the city. It was a very nice city and had some more importance to me because it was a big turning point in the war.
We got some tiny pizzas to go and headed toward the city of St. Nazaire. We wanted to see the submarine museum that is there but it was closed until 2 pm and we didn’t have time to wait. The base is pretty important because it is one of the only places that we didn’t take in the war. Despite heavy bombing and ground pressure, the Germans were able to keep it. After walking around the city, we had a hard time finding the way out, we got to it eventually and we were able to stay on the same road for along time. We headed toward Nantes, then Angers, then Le Mans. Although we didn’t stop to get close to the course, it was easy to see from the free way. And on to Chartres, the drive went pretty quickly, except for in big cities.
We wanted to go into Paris a different way then we left, but it was impossible. The French don’t believe in making roads in any geometrical pattern, and they don’t like to label any of their roads. Oh, and they also don’t put a lot of the road on the maps. So we got on the road we left with and headed toward the big city. When we got near St. Denis, I was lost and got really panicked because everyone was going really fast and all the pressure to get us to the rental place made me angry, that and the fact that Grandpa broke several big laws that I guess he was unaware of. Which reminds me, the French also need to realize that stop lights need to be where everybody can see them instead of on the side. So we drove around St. Denis, St. Oeun, and Stain for a good two hours. Eventually I said screw it and we found a public parking place and left the car there. Grandpa will deal with it in the morning, I don’t want to ever deal with that again. Next time in Euroland, I’m sleeping in the back or staying in the big city. It’s all good now though, after we got to the city I was all better and comfortable with my Metro. I freaking love the Metro, and the trains, I don’t really use the buses, and it seems like not many other people do either. I could take you from edge to edge of the city on the Metro. I want one in Oregon, just for me. Other people can go on it, but I get superiority and can kick people off. I should probably go to sleep soon, It’s around 1:30 am here. I can’t sleep and I’ve had to go back and change my spelling about every 3 seconds. this iswahat happens when I gont get enough speel. See? Not pretty at all. Goodnight everyone. Or the three people that will ever read this. Thanks for reading it.
